Zoom is making the app unusable #94

I load a puzzle, and when I either touch a clue, touch a letter, or touch on the puzzle, the whole puzzle zooms out so its about one inch square. I reset the zoom, or zoom in and the puzzle resumes normal size then as soon as I touch anywhere on the screen again, it becomes tiny again. This happened before and I had to uninstall it and reinstall. After about 2 months, the same thing happened again. It happens on every puzzle, so the app is unusable,

Have you tried disabling Double Tap Zoom in Settings? It sounds like for some reason Shortyz is interpreting your single tap as a double tap. Posting your device & OS version might help. Also, do you happen to be using a stylus? I find strange things happen when a stylus is wearing down.

Hi,  Thank you for getting back to me. Since I posted my question, I've had to uninstall the software and reinstall it.  The only time I have access to the screen where I posted my question is when I'm installing the software all over again.  I have an samsung galaxy, android version 4.1.2.   I have never had double-tap zoom enabled.  I never use a stylus. What happens, is that suddenly the whole crossword box shrinks down to about 2 x 2 inches - you can't read it. I have enlarged it manually, reset the zoom, zoomed in, etc, but each time afterward when I touch anywhere on the screen, the puzzle shrinks. From then on, it happens to every puzzle, every time, there's no going back.   Also, since I have your attention, when puzzles download, I see that the Washington Post puzzler downloads, but I can't find it anywhere, and the Post doesn't appear in my puzzle list.   thanks, in advance, for any help you can offer.  I love the way the app works, I don't think any other puzzle app works as well. I wish I could get/buy more puzzles to solve with it.  Especially the NY Times.

To be clear, I'm not the developer (or involved with Shortyz in any way). So these are just some suggestions based on my experiences using the app.

I beileve the screen from where you originally posted your question is the Release Notes. To view this at any time, go to Settings in the menu, and scroll all the way to the bottom. Then tap on "Release Notes" - it should be third from last. The "issue tracker" link there will open this page in your web browser (probably Chrome). I'd recommend adding a bookmark once the web site opens.

From what I've read, and my own experiences, Shortyz does have bugs in the zooming code, but yours is the most extreme I've seen! It sounds like what would happen if you "pinch" on the puzzle until it zooms all they way out.

Some more questions: 1) Do you see the puzzle get smaller (like a zooming effect), or does it suddenly go from normal size to tiny?

2) When you say that once it happens, "it happens to every puzzle", do you mean the puzzles are tiny when you first open them, or do they shrink as soon as you touch them?

3) And when you say "when I touch anywhere on the screen, the puzzle shrinks", do you mean anywhere in the puzzle area (where the grid/board is), or absolutely anywhere (like the title bar, clue list, or keyboard)?

4) This may sound like a silly question, but just to make sure: Are you sure you're not touching the screen anywhere else (e.g. with your thumb as you're holding your tablet, or with your palm)?

5) Do you play in portrait mode (clues below the puzzle), or landscape mode (clues beside the puzzle)?

6) Do you have any similar problems in other games or apps?

7) What model Galaxy do you have? (there's literally hundreds). You can check this by opening the Android/Samsung Settings app - there should be something like "About device"/"About phone"/"About tablet". Tap on that, and hopefully you'll see "Model number" or "Model name".

I can't promise any of these will help solve your problem, but maybe if we narrow it down enough, someone who knows the code might be able to find a bug.

The only other suggestion I have right now is to change the "Snap to Current Word" setting. If it's checked, try unchecking it. You may need to close the current puzzle (if applicable), or close Shortyz and start it again.

Hope this helps! Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,  Thank you so much for trying to help with my crossword; I thought you were the developer, I guess you're just a good samaritan. I responded to some of your questions below in CAPS.  I beileve the screen from where you originally posted your question is the Release Notes.
