Start-up Alert #175

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

First, thanks for developing tenfourfox. I've been using it over a year. Below
is what is happening, but first, my computer:

I've uninstalled all add-ons. I have an iBook 1.2 GHz ("7450 G4e") PPC w/ OS X
10.5.8. I get an "Alert!" when opening Tenfourfox and it wont load any pages.
Here is the warning below:

" Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely
cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please
check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is
not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and
fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect
application behaviour when accessing security features."

This would have been better sent through our Tenderapp support site, as we
request end-users to do on the main Googlecode page. Nevertheless, since you're
here, we're missing some information:

- You didn't say which version of TenFourFox.
- You didn't say if your hard disk is indeed full, or how much space it
actually does have, as the message suggests.
- It would be nice to know the permissions on your Application Support/Firefox
folder (and whether you've tried running Repair Permissions and whether that
made a difference), as the message suggests.

Hello and thanks for responding. It's TenFourFox 10.0.6. My HDD has a 60 GB
capacity and 27.78 is available. For permissions. For Application
Support/Firefox folder, Permissions are read&write for me, the admin. The one
folder in "Profiles" at the end of /Users/YOUR USER/Library/Application
Support/Firefox/Profiles is melbsyix.default. Permissions are read&write for
me, the admin.

This computer upgraded from 10.4, rather than a clean install. 10.4 was a
university enterprise install which included a very old version of Firefox, so
I recently uninstalled that Firefox. Perhaps that is the problem?

In case anybody else asks again, the problem seem to be from uninstalling
Firefox. The cert8.db must have been corrupted; I deleted that, then when
restarting TenFourFox works.

Here is the link to Mozilla's support on the issue.

I apologize for not being around a couple days. Glad you were able to
self-resolve the problem. I'll note it down for the user support area and
thanks for the link.
