With tomorrow being a holiday, I'll probably take a stab at this over the weekend.
Yeahhhh I didn't. I'll get to it sometime, though.
At least personally, I find https://github.com/keithzg/paulmillerisoffline/commit/da8405dbfe8bca13896563bcdb1934856c9bb419 made the background look a bunch better. Tough call since it also made the app much, much bigger, but hey, we live in an era of broadband and LTE (well, I live in an era of aDSL-with-no-usage-cap and two HSPA+ data plans with soft-caps of 5GB and 10GB respectively, but close enough).
According to Andrew Rockefeller in his reply to me at http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/24/4141110/a-paul-offline-app-for-windows-phone#152188665 , the respective backgrounds are an overlay of https://mvuiig.bn1.livefilestore.com/y1pf0pEXDxVn3Ct8MbMxL1xhk1-WkSz1VWDA8xhEvf9Mtr52HhsYQVphcePoPSG3LSamKmwYdEwHO_6D0SZA_vhvD_5CeW5o9Vb/Paper%20Filter%201280.png atop:
Orange – #ed583e Purple – #6f529d White – #e5e5e5
In the iOS app, the images used are apparently those respective colors with the filter image as a linear burn overlay.
