Breaks a lot....

the-lay commented 9 years ago

I don't have time next two and a half weeks, so I can't promise anything, sorry :( If I can, I will take a look on the weekend. Probably should not be very hard to fix this, they just changed the layout of the match page, right?

@the-lay Most things still work, fortunately. Two things that are broken are the date and round scores.

The date under a match result now looks like this:

November 09, Sunday, 17:00 CET

I'm not sure why they decided to omit the year of a match, nor why they wanted to include the weekday. This is the worst issue here (not knowing the year), in my opinion, so I kinda gave up on trying to fix this yesterday.

Round scores aren't even displayed anymore; some people have complained about that and they said that they're still working on the new layout. I wouldn't mind just setting rounds to null for the time being.

Seeing as how the development team is responding to suggestions on the post, I've made a comment suggesting that they add the year to all the match dates. I don't seem to be able to link to individual comments, but it's on page 2. I've reproduced it below:

Hello, I just wanted to suggest including the year when displaying the date of a match. I don't know if I can post links here, but, for example, if one looks at http://www.gosugamers.net/counterstrike/tournaments/4767-fragbite-masters-cs-go-season-3/1257-playoffs/4772-playoffs/matches/57218-team-ldlc-vs-fnatic (match 57218, LDLC vs fnatic, if link is gone), they would see that this match took place on "November 09, Sunday, 17:00 CET". Now, considering how the oldest matches on this site are from 2014, and how we are not at November 2015 yet, it's clear that this match took place in 2014 yet this kind of deduction should not be necessary, and will spawn issues when we overlap the dates of 2014 matches now in 2015. To add to the confusion, "March 2015" is shown above the match result. This is, of course, the current month and year we are in, but it doesn't seem like relevant information to me in the context of a match like this one.

If fitting the year on the date-line between the two team logos is a difficulty, then I would also like to suggest scrapping the weekday from the date. If there are indeed people who would like to know what day of the week a match took place, then they should simply be able to look-up the date online; I believe the year takes precedence here.

Thanks for reading my rant/suggestion, and I hope the team will consider it :)
