Bugfix: Wii64 doesn't boot #120

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. WiiSystem Menu 4.1 (PAL video settings) - Launching Wii64 through
Bannerbomb and LoadMii (normal SD card used to start Wii64, other homebrew
starts fine and loads correctly)
2. After starting the Wii screen turn black, and the controller looses
connection (all lights go off). The controller cannot be relink, after a
short blinking, the controller switches of again
3. Tried having Classic controller connected or disconnected, same effect.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Start of Wii64 emulator, but got only black screen, the menu does not even
appear.

What version of the product are you using? On which system and loader?
Wii64 beta1 (previous version started correctly). Wii SystemMenu 4.1

Please provide any additional information below.
All needed folders are present.

This is either an issue with the loader or a bad copy of the dol to your SD.
Try
recopying, and if that doesn't work, try it with HBC (I believe there at least
used
to be a version you could run without installing)

Downloaded new zip, extracted it to a new SD-card with bannerbomb hack an started
Wii64beta1 with loadmii, same effect.
When copying boot.dol of the wii64beta1 to the root of the SD-card so bannerbomb
launches Wii64 without passing through the loadmii loader, the same issue
occures.
Tried to find a copy of homebrewchannel which must not be installed (as I still
have
warranty) but didn't find one :-)
Perhaps this issue could be addressed somehow allowing to start wii64 in futur
releases just like the version before using loadmii.

It works now, found Wiixplorer, it can boot .dol/.elf files and the Wii64beta1
emu
starts. Thanks tehpola, your answer put me in the right direction.
Thanks also for this good work to all those involved.

@DaveLoro: How very odd, you just described my setup exactly... Have you tried
manually installing it on your SD card by downloading and extracting the archive
available on here? My setup works just fine.

Dave, what version of DVDx are you running?

Original comment by emuki...@gmail.com on 19 Oct 2009 at 5:58

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
latest dvdx. installed with hackmii installer, just tried downgrading to 3.2
and back again... still no luck... on 3.2
or on new 4.1 install(waninkoko) ... preloader and all the other usual suspects
will not load it still... small change
now tho, instead of black screen and blinking blue led, i get kicked into
bootmii (installed as ios) instead now...

also tried a forwarder no go.

The issue lies with the new DVDx and our old code. The upcoming release should
see
this issue fixed.

hey u were right i fixed the problem by re-installing patchmii core(i have a
mod chip) and also used the old
standalone dvdx installer to reinstall... now it works!!!! YEAH!!!!!

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
This should be fixed in our minor release.

Note to self: don't DI_Close() before DI_Init() (breaks new DVDx)

I have been trying to load the Wii64 Beta through the boot.dol but the screen
turns
black and nothing else happens. What should I do?

system menu 4.2U, tried LoadMii and straight from the root using Bannerbomb,
and all
I get is a black screen. New DVDx, and using Beta 1.1 of the installer. Other
apps/games DO load.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
This is most likely an issue with bannerbomb (and LoadMii) itself.

Wii64 uses a huge amount of static sections (possibly more than any other Wii
homebrew), which all need to be cleared at startup by the loader (like any good
loader does). It's possible that there are overlapping sections with the system
menu
which are cleared when loading Wii64, so that's where the issue arises. I
suggest you
install HBC and boot it through there.
