Is there any plan to make this work on an image that is set via background-image?

Great idea, it would really make this aplicable to almost any background out there. Hopefully Mr. Kenneth will find the idea valuable and make it work.

I'm currently working on a new version that supports css background images (code is on branch css-backgrounds). Check the example or grab the minified version.

It is not complete yet and has only been tested on Chrome. If you try it out, please keep the following in mind:

Supports

• background-size cover, contain, auto, px, %
• background-position top, left, center, right, bottom, px, %

Limitations

• Multiple background images are not supported
• background-origin is forced to padding-box
• background-repeat is forced to no-repeat
