Boats that have ic2, thermal expansion, UE and gregtech machines. :)

How would machines be powered?

Modifiers can define if they conduct electricity and therefore share energy with other Modifiers. Materials will be able to share electricity with other conductible Modifiers. Modifiers will be able to define if they give off electricity or consume electricity.

I believe that, in the spirit of minecraft and it's "logic-full" physics, energy would be shared between connected boats automagically, without the need for conduits

Yes. But the Boat's Materials should atleast be conductive.

How do you think RailCraft's tunnel bore dumps its items into connected chest carts? That's just how minecraft works, don't overcomplicate things!
