Is it possible to insert the proxy between a Unifi camera and Unifi Protect (e.g. a G3 camera)? #81

Hi,

As the title says really, a couple of use cases I see for this:

  1. Adding features like smart detection to older cameras.
  2. Further development, we can see what the camera sends back and forth to protect.
  3. Avoiding the multi-second delay when using this with the Unifi Protect Home Assistant plugin as we can connect directly the RSTP stream without the delay added by Protect.

Thanks a lot

I suppose you could configure the camera to be RTSP-only (directly from the camera UI, using its IP address) and feed that to unifi-cam-proxy. Theoretically, you could even add the camera twice (once directly, and once through the RTSP feed that Unifi protect gives you). It's worth a try.

@5thsymphony did you get this to work? I too would want this functionality mostly for #1
