rename taborama #46

Closed kesselborn closed 6 years ago

kesselborn commented 6 years ago

there is already a web-extension called taborama in the chrome web store. As webextension are compatible with chrome-webextension as well, I think this will just cause confusion.

Furthermore, my taborama actually does not have a panorama'ish view (which was where it was derived from), so the name does not make sense at all

Ideas:

@grahamperrin as you already commented here quite a lot: any good ideas? Would like to do this rather sooner than later.

Pottery

https://addons.mozilla.org/search/?q=Pottery not found.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/Pottery?_category=extensions finds two themes, no risk of confusion with anything privacy/container/context-related.

kesselborn commented 6 years ago

Does it have any meaning with the funtionality of the extension?

grahamperrin commented 6 years ago

Yes and no. A pot is a type of container.

At the back of my mind in recent weeks I've had something like … a simple two-frame comic strip using pots, in a way that might help people to understand the limitations of (Firefox) containers. Toying with the idea.

mmm ... I kind of like the idea, but it sounds weird -- probably because I am a non native speaker, don't know :) I think I will go with conex which is short for container express which again is a type of shipping container. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I never saw the phrase Conex in the UK, it's commonplace for people to say "shipping container" (we have people living in converted shipping containers in my city (Brighton and Hove), and so on).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conex I see various interpretations, pages such as https://www.bizapedia.com/trademarks/conex-85126705.html relate to the CONEX trademark, hopefully the owners plan nothing browser-related :-)

When I hear the phrase I think first of trains because, for years, Connex South Central served my area but the name Connex is no longer used.

I've never heard of the word conex before this, but it sounds like an abbreviation of container extension, so I think it's okay :)
