D800E freeze in bulk mode #67

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Using Bulk mode freezes the D800E
2. Shutter opens, timer counter runs, after finish D800E is frozen, Shutter
still open
3. Only turning off the cam sovles the problem

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

To fix the bug

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest firmware D800E, latest Download V030.26._1.apk

Please provide any additional information below.

Well, a big wish would be to be enable to have a Bracketing for HDR night
shoots longer than 30 sec. possible
This limitation of 30 secs. is for nightscape HDR a big issue. Only using Bulb
and then manually setting times, makes it possible to have a bracketing longer
than 30 sec.

Maybe it would be possible to run bracketing in a bulb mode?? Or an other way
to work around it.

Thanks Hans

Can you try V0.30.26_3 I just uploaded
(https://code.google.com/p/dslrdashboard/downloads/detail?name=DslrDashboard_V0.
30.26_3.apk&can=2&q=#makechanges).

I tested it with D7100 and bulb mode works.
For bulb mode to work you must set the exposure mode to 'M' (in other exposure
modes it will not work - camera limitation)
Set the shutter speed to BULB.
Press the capture button.
In the dialog select the desired time or set it to 0:0:0:0
After you press OK it will start the capture.
If you didn't set a time or you want to stop the capture before it reaches the
time you set you must press the capture button again.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I tested it with..............button again.

- This is all clear and was done_

But the cam frooze after timer of the desired time on dashboard run off, and
shutter remained open.

Now it is working again, with latest update.

Any idea regarding the issue to have bracketing (automatically) possible for
longer exposures as 30 sec.?
Did read the instruction in the ebook about bracketing in capture mode. This
is all clear, but a possibility to set different exposure values don´t seem to
be possible.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Try this new version -
https://code.google.com/p/dslrdashboard/downloads/detail?name=DslrDashboard_V0.3
0.26_4.apk&can=2&q=#makechanges

Now bulb shooting should work with custom bracketing (only in M mode).
The initial shutter speed must be <=30.

Tested it with D7100 and Canon 650D and works on both.

Hi Thaks again for the fast response.
I just downloaded the latest _4 from google play store. But it seems to be not
working.

The custom bracketing used to work before in M Modus. But the problem still
remains, as soon as the exposure time exceeds 30sec the cam is trying to use
flash.

I.e. setting 15sec in M with 4 pics and + 2 EV will exceed the 30 sec and than
the DSLR dashboard / cam wants to use flash.

Setting on Bulk, starting with i.e. 15 sec, only one exposure will be taken.
(Normal BKT set on 4 frames + 2.0 EV)

Maybe I misunderstood something?

Thnaks for your response

What do you mean by camera trying to use flash?
Do you mean by that the shutter speed is displaying FLASH?

Do you get the correct values if you enter the dialog where the shutter speed
will exceed 30"?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Hi

Well, as described before.

Settings:

Mode M; initial shutter speed value for example 15 sec. BKT settings i.e. 3
pictures overexposure (+2.0 EV)
Cam shoots 1 frame (15 sec). Than DSLR Dashbord jumps into flash mode
automatically (because time will be longer than 30 sec) and the rest frames
will be shoot with (I quess) 1/60.

Using Mode M; and Bulk, puting in 15 sec before the captuare start only one
picture is taken. (BKT is activated same as above.)

What values do you see in the bracketing dialog?
What value is displayed for shutter speed when the flash is activated? Do it
maybe displaying 'FLASH'?

When I enter the bracketing dialog with shutter speed set to 15" and set EV
step to 2.0 EV and under/over count to 4 then i get the following values
1/15
1/4
1"
4"
15"
60"
240"
960"
3840"

do you get the same?

Hi,

In the bracketing dialog when Bulk is enabled I only see "Bulk" no values, and
the normal over and under exposure count and EV step dialog....

I cannot see any value for flash somehow to be displayed.

I only put in 4 images + over exposed to test if above 30 seconds will work.
So as said before
one shoot 15 seconds and than the dslr dashboard tries / jumps into the flash
mode,and does not expose 60, 240, 960, 3840 as it should.

If the shutter speed is set to BULB and you enter the bracketing dialog, or if
you enable custom bracketing and then set the shutter speed to BULB and start
the bracketing then it will not work.
You need to set the shutter speed to other value then BULB ( <=30" ), enter the
bracketing dialog and set the desired settings (check if the displayed values
are ok).
Exit the dialog, don't touch the shutter speed and start the capture.
I tested again with D7100 and 650D and works on both.
Regarding the flash, in DD there is no code that would enable the flash, so
that must be some setting on the camera.

Well I done this.

Setting the Shutter speed in Mode M on 15 sec. Go to the Bracketing dialog,
choosing -2 and + 2 with value 2.0 EV I see the following values:

under:
1.0;
4.0;
15.0; (normal value), but than:
1.0 Thats when he jumping into flash mode)
1.0

(indeed no flash is fired, as not activated on cam..

Hi,
checked the following:

Setting the Shutter speed in Mode M on 15 sec. Go to the Bracketing dialog,
choosing -2 and + 2 with value 0.5 EV I see the following values:

under:
8.0 sec
10.0 sec

middle:
15.0 sec

over
20.0 sec
30.0 sec

This is all correct, but when setting on 1.0 EV the following appears:

under:
8.0 sec
10.0 sec

middle
15.0 sec

over
20.0 sec
1.0 sec !!

Hope this helps to solve the issue..

Thanks

When you bring up the shutter speed dialog what values do you see there after
30"?

30"
FLASH
BULB
?
What is the exposure EV step set in camera 1/3 1/2 ?
Can you change the exposure EV step to other values and then back again and
check then?

hen you bring up the shutter speed dialog what values do you see there after

30"
FLASH
BULB

Yes as above....

What is the exposure EV step set in camera 1/3 1/2 ?

It is: 1/3

Can you change the exposure EV step to other values and then back again and
check then?

Done this, but still remains: estimates exposure in the dialouge cusom
bracketing settings exceeding 30 sec falls back to 1.

Can you send me a logcat? You don't need to start the capture, it is enough if
you enter the custom bracketing dialog.

I asked a D800 user to test the BULB bracketing and for him worked just as I
described. Also did more test with D7100 and 650D and both worked as described.

Original comment by hub...@gmail.com on 17 Aug 2013 at 1:56

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Hi,

I presume that the D800 user did really try to expose above 30 sec. Cause you
know that below 30 sec. it is also working with mine.

I will check for a firmware update. But there is nothing else I can do. I made
tests in the field ("normal" bracketing operating up to 30 sec.), and I am
actually very happy. But to resolve this 30 sec problem would be the topic.
Maybe you can give me a quite quide how to send you a log cat?

Thanks

You can use Lumberjack from Google Play or check this XDA thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513166.

You will probably need root on your Android device, but first try without it.

Sorry,

but thats all to complicated, and I do not have the time to work through all
this. I am just a user and not a programmer. So I quess I have to live with the
limmitation.

Thanks

Another solution would be if your Android device is connected to internet that
I start a server in DslrDashboard on my Nexus7 and you connect to it from your.

Hi I don´t know what happend, and what the bug was, but downloaded the latest
version today, the problem is solved. Passing above 30 sec. bulk mode is
activated and the bulb timer runs as desired.

You will make many Nikon HDR night specialists very happy...

Thanks ever so much.
