Reduced Blanking v3 #6

Open haarp opened 2 years ago

haarp commented 2 years ago

Hi,

it seems that a new version of reduced blanking has been released. I cannot find much information about it, apart from some commits (https://github.com/esok/edid-decode/commit/e908154d87394de9e84e900162a3035e6c398fb2)

Might be worth implementing? I'm always up for getting more out of existing links :) Assuming we can find the official specs. Either in CEA-861-H or CVT 1.2 Errata E1.

Cheers!

Hi @haarp, thanks for the information, I'll try to see if I can get more information from the VESA website, I looked into it a few months ago but they gated it by requiring personal information so I didn't proceed further, perhaps there's more information available publicly now.

fyi, CTA-861-H is since available for free (still requires registration tho) here: https://shop.cta.tech/products/a-dtv-profile-for-uncompressed-high-speed-digital-interfaces-cta-861-h

From a quick glance, I see some mentions of RB3 in the document, but not much about timings.

https://www.monitortests.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=770 I have also seen mentions of CVT 2.0 floating around but I couldn't find anything specific.

libxcvt has seemingly added RBv2 and v3: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libxcvt/-/merge_requests/11/commits

I do wonder if that removes the need for separate tools.

mirh commented 1 year ago

That's just a PR actually, and even some tentative one presumably.

This tool generated a modeline that caused flickering on my Samsung G9, by using the upstream cvt tool in libxcvt 0.1.2-2 I got a verly slighly different modeline that worked fine and reduced power draw to half.

Try that out too if you have problems!
