add CAS version to configuration options #16

Kevin, here is a pull request for setting the CAS version. This is my first pull request so I'm not positive I did it right. Edit at will.

Manually merged this in d747cfbe44753f165f8058ec1962615d1ab80bcc.

I also followed it up with a few cleanups. Sorry for the delay, I didn't have a working development environment when you sent this and I just finally got around to it.
