NPR News app FCs rather constantly due to FordSync

It looks like the latest update to the NPR app to make it compatible with 
FordSync is causing a lot of force-closes - this is also being reported on the 
Google Play Store as well. 

See attached for logcat of the exception being thrown that causes FC.

FCs occur both when streaming and when the app isn't actively being used.

Assigning for dev review. Thanks for the log. Are there any easy repo steps or 
does the issue appear sporadically?

Sporadically. Typically as I open a new app, NPR News will FC. This only 
happens after the NPR app itself FCs; if I never open the app after booting up 
my phone, it doesn't FC (I think).
