"Stellar network error" for any attempt to send XLM #24678

Open DeepMac opened 3 years ago

DeepMac commented 3 years ago

Multiple attempts to send XLM to an external wallet from the Windows Keybase client are failing with the generic message "Stellar network error".

Reddit thread showing at least some other Keybase users are experiencing this issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellar/comments/q6c806/is_keybase_broke/

DeepMac commented 3 years ago

Verified this also happens in the most recent Android client. Stellar.org's network status doesn't show any indication of significant or consistent errors. Possibly this due to Stellar's recent update to Protocol 18.

katbow commented 3 years ago

I am also experiencing this issue. I was able to send a small amount and confirmed receipt. When I open that transaction on stellar expert, I can see it was successful, but keybase thinks it failed due to stellar network error and my balance remains unchanged on keybase. After that, any transaction I have attempted failed in the same way where keybase has "stellar network error". When I open the transaction on stellar expert, the error message is "Error: Transaction not found on Stellar Network."

dantronix commented 3 years ago

@katbow described exactly the scenario which I've also experienced.

katbow commented 3 years ago

Perhaps this has to do with the Protocol 18 changes. That article notes the upgrade should have been completed by Nov 3, which is the date I started seeing issues.

I don't see any commits indicating the Stellar SDK was updated.

Edit: Completely missed that @DeepMac mentioned this too! It seems a likely culprit imo.

Managed to save my XLM by using https://stellarport.io to transfer it.

DeepMac commented 3 years ago

@wgroenewold Can you elaborate on how you did that?

wgroenewold commented 3 years ago

Loaded my Keybase Secret Key in StellarX. Then openend my StellarX wallet in StellarPort. Then tranfered everything to Bitvavo.

elisboa commented 3 years ago

Thank you so much @wgroenewold I managed to transfer succesfully!

JonMontgo commented 3 years ago

Can confirm I'm having the same issue. For me I transferred XLM to my wallet which shows on https://stellar.expert but does not show in the balance on my keybase.

That's because the Stellar network upgraded to v18 but the Keybase client didn't. Better grab your XLM while you can.

Hey @JonMontgo it's the same for me: my Keybase app still shows my assets, but it's because it doesn't retreive updated information from the blockchain, since it has been updated to Protocol 18, as mentioned above

elisboa commented 3 years ago

Hey @wgroenewold do you recommend selling all lumens also or just grabbing them out of keybase?

dantronix commented 3 years ago

@wgroenewold thank you! I'll send a few tokens your way, my friend. Would you mind elaborating more on stellarx and stellarport and why you used those as middleman services? I've never heard of them before this but they both look interesting. I was able to transfer mine directly from stellarx to coinbase, which was my original target. Thanks again!

I don't do financial advice, but still... Stellar network looks stable and in a lift, so keeping XLM is a good idea. Keybase is abandoned after Zoom aquisition so better get your coins when you still can and transfer them to another exchange.

Why the extra step with StellarX? Can't you just login to stellarport with your Keybase Secret Key and transfer from there directly (spoiler you can do that, because I just did it).

SergeantSerk commented 3 years ago

Just as a note, I experienced the same with the GUI in terms of sending XLM and actually receiving it but the GUI does not update. I'm trying to use the Keybase CLI keybase wallet list and getting WARNING Could not load balance for "<address>" and then ERROR stellar network error after that. image

siliconmeadow commented 3 years ago

I don't know about others here, but I'm presuming things have been fixed at keybase.io's end, as I've been able to deposit XLM into my Binance account from keybase now. I've not updated the client on my Linux laptop or my Android phone. Maybe this ticket can be closed @DeepMac ?

SergeantSerk commented 3 years ago

Yes I think they fixed it as of yesterday as I am now able to see my balances and perform transactions.

This issue has been resolved.
