BlueScreen after initiating upgrade, and keybase for Windows is gone #2414

I am using Windows Home Version 1511 Build 10586.494 and (don't precisely remember the old version).

I got a popup telling me about the "keybase client upgrade" and I decided to initiate one. While installing, Windows produced BlueScreen and after the reboot, keybase app was gone. (When I enter Keybase in the search bar, I expect "Keybase shell" to show up but there was nothing. This is why I think the BS is related to the keybase upgrading...)

And when I tried the latest Windows build and install it again, it warned me that there were ongoing install and I have to undo it, and after I clicked 'do as you wish', it was done without errors. It might be WORKSFORME or is not reproducible, but I think it's worth reporting.

For the record, the current version is as follows. (which was after the upgrade)

C:\Users\revi\AppData\Roaming\Keybase>keybase version
Client: 1.0.16-20160722171947+d8e38aa
Service: 1.0.16-20160722171947+d8e38aa

Really sorry about this. Do you by any chance run BitDefender?

No, I only use Avast.

Is there a .dmp file in your %windir%\minidump directory? If so, can you share it with me (zanderz)? Thanks.

revi commented 8 years ago

There was one. I've copied it under K:\private\reviwm,zanderz\dumps.

Thank you for the dump. This happened in the filesystem filter driver manager, making it similar to other kernel crashes we have seen for users with av software installed. We are about to release some fixes for these, and if you still have problems after that, we will look more specifically at Avast compatibility.
