Fundamental UI Issues #3601

Open bajsicki opened 5 years ago

bajsicki commented 5 years ago

Client doesn't allow for window pop-out, hiding left sidebar, breaking the UI when not given enough screen width.

As you can see here:

keybase ui client

The expected behavior is that the left sidebar will collapse to make more screenspace for the chat area. This doesn't happen.

Similarly, there is currently no means of splitting chats into separate windows, which would massively improve usability. It's almost 2020, there's no excuse for lacking basic functionality that chat applications have had 20 years ago. AIM, Skype, mIRC, all allowed for window splitting.

Please fix. Also please give us dark mode. I'm a vampire.

Ideally, I would like to see something like this possible:

image (app is Ripcord, a third-party Discord client - notice that there's 4 separate chats visible, and each window has tabs on top to switch to frequently used channels, too)

Even if there is a main window with current functionality, and just the ability to split chats into new windows, that'll be a massive step in the right direction, particularly for power-users.

Thanks!

This is the way. The pop-in and pop-out. Having no control to resize the side menu, or the channel list is insanity.
