Try enabling access for assistive devices. You can do this by going into System Preferences, then select Accessibility (under System). Then enable the checkbox for "Enable access for assistive devices." Default visualizer should work again.

bruno- commented 10 years ago

Hi, it seems there was a change for the setting "Enable access for assistive devices" in OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). This access is now given on a per-app basis, as described on this link to apple KB.

I tried following the steps from the above link, but the problem is - when installed, KeyCastr is not shown on the list of accessibility apps! I've previously (on Mavericks) enabled the access for the number of other apps: GoogleTalkPlugin, Skype, Divvy, and Mousepose and everything worked fine.

Maybe KeyCastr should be updated to follow this change in OS X settings?

Is there at least a workaround for this issue?

altryne commented 10 years ago

:+1: I really want keycastr to work as well!

repomorphism commented 10 years ago

Thanks to bruno's information above, I kind of got keycastr to work under 10.9.1. You just have to drag the keycastr app into the accessibility apps list.

Seems like it's not without some problems though, I had it work for a while, and display disappeared again. I then tried stuff like re-dragging it into the accessibility app list, removing .plist file etc. and the display came back.

sathishvj commented 10 years ago

That worked for me too. Open Security & Privacy -> Privacy Tab -> Accessibility. Click the lock to make changes. Drag drop KeyCastr.app.
However, my computer has high resolution and there are issues with text wrapping, location of display, etc.

@sathishvj Thanks :+1:

:+1: for the drag & drop trick !

lucascaton commented 10 years ago

Thanks @sathishvj! It worked here!

felipej commented 10 years ago

@sathishvj, thanks for the great tip! Got it working on 10.9.2.

cskeeters commented 10 years ago

On 10.9.2, I dragged the application into the Accessibility list as suggested. NOTE: I had to reboot before the application would work.

gal-at-aljazeera commented 9 years ago

@cskeeters I just had to close the app and restart it, but then it works.

Thanks @es2mac and @sathishvj.

Agreed that its not without some problems, sometimes it stops working and you have to restart it, but that it did even before Mavericks

natchiketa commented 9 years ago

Thanks @sathishvj—works for me in Mavericks, following @gal-at-aljazeera 's steps.

lqez commented 9 years ago

I tested latest release and confirmed it works well on Maverick and Yosemite. But @sathishvj 's guide should be revealed in README and documents. Thanks!
