I cannot set up the XMOS toolchain for building on Ubuntu 22.

Can you please add instructions on how to set up the XMOS build environment and how to compile the tone2 application with it,

In app_tone2 Makefile, the variable COMPILE_TIME is missing the first letter "C". This prevented the build with xmake and resulted in a rather unspecific error message. A pull request for both affected branches was created.

I want to add that this project can be built on Linux without using xTIME Composer Studio with the latest version of XTC TOOLS.

All you need to do is :

download and unpack archive with the Linux version of XTC TOOLS,
source provided SetEnv script
move to the tone2-xmos/sw_usb_audio/app_tone2 directory and possibly modify BUILD_TYPE Makefile variable
call xmake to invoke the build of the binary
