Hello,

Is it possible to add shadows which we can easily tun on or off by editing the skin?

Rainmeter currently support shadow only on String meter. Check this out, Shadow setting specifically.
Also, most part of this skin is Shape so putting shadow on them is not possible.

How about adding a second layer of the image, but set to be completly black and transparent?

I think it would be possible to do it that way, but i don't know if it's possible to easily change between those two layouts.
