Can't add venues. Error message: "Foursquare is down. Try again later." #165

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add venue
2. Place the address: CITY, STATE, ZIP are detected automatically. Give in
the venue name and street. In my case (as one example) the following full
address and venue: Ketchum Pleon GmbH (venue), Bahnstr. 2, Düsseldorf,
North Rhine-Westphalia, 40210
3. Add venue.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The resulted output should be an added venue. Instead I'm getting the
following error message: "Foursquare is down. Try again later."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Foursquare for Android on a Nexus One. I've been using it on a T-Mobile G1,
had the same error message.

Please provide any additional information below.
The error is not location specific. I've tried adding venues in different
cities across Europe - had always the same error message and I've also used
the software on different android devices (Nexus One, G1) and I'm still
getting the same message. Might that be an account specific problem?

I'm experiencing the same issue. Running Foursquare for Android on a Motorola
Milestone, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since I'm using a different account, the
problem is not related to schwarzmann's account.

@schwarzmann & dbuthay: are you getting this error every time you try to add a
venue, or does it happen only
sometimes?

I'm having it everywhere and all the time.

I tried twice, and it failed both times.

I'm having the exact same problem running the official Foursquare app in my
Motorola
Milestone. It happens all the time and everywhere.

I re-tried this weekend and it worked.

Today, it didn't work, either. I tried searching for a Venue and I got 0
results.
Tried adding the Venue, and it didn't work. A couple of minutes later, I
successfully
checked-in on a different location.

The problem may be network related, but I checked my internet connection and it
was
working fine.

Well, I've managed to add a venue yesterday. I had to manually add the street
name
and house number, but the rest worked out well. Not sure what have changed. Did
you
guys do something?

Now I'm back to square one. Tried to add a venue back at home in Düsseldorf
and got
the same error as before. It's strange, maybe I can only add venues in Berlin,
but
nowhere else? I was receiving the same error code out of Düsseldorf as well.

Changing the defaulted state, " australian capital territory" to act allowed
me to add the venue

This is definitely a problem with the foursquare servers and not the client.
We've changed the error message for
connection errors to the foursquare server to be more descriptive and will let
the user know it's not the client's
fault!
