Does this look fine for adding api with multiple output formats?

Let me know if there's a better way or going this route is acceptable

Some tests are failing , I can look into fixing this if you think this approach works

As far as I understand the documentation part is not related to the code change, is that correct? If so could you make another PR for documentation please.
