The current stable release is 4.2.5..
I recommend to use the stable or stable release version, at the moment I do not see any advantages to using the unstable builds.
@xi784, thanks, you are correct. I was unaware that I could specify the minimum version in sources.list. It seems that without it, apt gives me 4.0.9.
I have the same problem, i tried both tvheadend "release/4.2" and "master", if you look in tvheadend admin page, every time you change channel another subscription is made, and the older still there. Maybe if you are using a gigabit network you don't notice, but on wifi the program is unusable.
It seems that one of the last updates on the 'unstable' branch (4.3) has broken the client. EPG comes through but stream never starts. (the blue circle just keeps spinning) In the very beginning it worked fine but after changing the channel couple of times, it broke down. I have tried flushing the config and reinstalling the app nut nothing helps.
Current stable (4.0.9) seems to be working. (using Mi Box with Android 6)
