Before you start.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

Describe the bug I installed the fraidycat extension on my firefox android, and the extension appears and shows me empty fraidycat page when I use it. However, my follows do not sync at all from my desktop firefox to this firefox android. Any idea if this is supposed to work or if there's anything I can do to make it work?

@aereaux I apologize - I don't have an Android device for testing, so could use some help from someone to debug this. Thanks for reporting tho!

aereaux commented 2 years ago

I should be able to do some debugging some time, but I'm not too familiar with the specifics of firefox sync, so I'm not sure what to try. Any ideas?

Hi there! I recently remembered your project and decided to try it out on Firefox Beta on Android. Looks like I'm having the same problem that @aereaux is having as well, but I'm coming from it from the opposite end — I installed fraidycat on Firefox Beta, and then installed it on my desktop machines. No syncing so far.

My client information is as follows:

Desktop Client

Mobile Client

If you're needing help on testing this, I'd be willing to try and assist, but like @aereaux, I'd totally appreciate some guidance on what to look out for and what to provide (logs, debugging information, etc.)

Thanks!

Hello, I do have an Android device for testing. And I would be happy to help test! But I am unable to install the extension provided at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fraidycat/ with either the default or beta versions of Firefox for Android. Do you have any recommendations for ways to obtain/install the extension?

aereaux commented 1 year ago

Firefox on android makes it hard to install extensions that aren't in a certain set unfortunately. You'll need to follow instructions like this one: https://www.ghacks.net/2022/10/20/firefox-beta-for-android-now-supports-custom-add-on-collections/ (which should work with the stable Firefox for android too). I have a collection that includes fraidycat here if it helps: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collections/17221498/Android/

@aereaux thank you for those instructions and links!

I was able to install the Fraidycat extension on Firefox Beta for Android (regular version did not provide the Custom add-on collection option after activating the Developer Debug settings). I was able to upload the JSON export file from my regular Firefox browser. The import seems to be working and I see all the feeds and settings that I had in my Desktop Firefox. However, I see no evidence of syncing taking place between the two devices; I tried changing a setting on the desktop and mobile device without any effect.

My device information is below.
