In the user tests, 2/5 users needed assistance in throwing the teddy bear into the garbage can. It is quite possible that the examination and interaction texts are misleading in this matter - the player character is obviously quickly attached to the teddy bear, so throwing it into the garbage can be counter-intuitive.
At the same time, the attachment to the teddy produces some of the funniest lines in the game, so it shouldn't be removed.
However, something should be done. Perhaps the teddy isn't afraid of getting messy, unlike the main character. The character could comment/hint that the teddy can help him with picking up the gum from the garbage can. (Remember though, that there is not tracking what the player has examined/done, so the texts have to work regardless of the player having the teddy in the inventory, having examined the garbage can, having dna-analyzed the gum in the garbage can etc)
