Hello! Quick question, this sounds amazing, but how is it with Privacy on Scanbot as that app isn't open-source? Does it read all my scanned data or something like that?

There seems be one Open-Source version, but sadly it crashes on start-up so wondering more about the Scanbot one.

Thanks, Tobias

Hi @PostNow 👋

unfortunately one can never be 100% sure with closed source software, that's true, but I'm fairly sure Scanbot has no bad intentions and won't steal your data. It's made by doo GmbH, a company based in Germany and operating under German law, which is a big plus. And they've been around for a while now making different kinds of scanning apps (and iirc a hosted document store very similar to paperless, which unfortunately wasn't profitable and shut down).

I tried to pair Scanbot with my Nextcloud WebDav (hosted at manitu.net) sometime ago, but gave up since Scanbot kept complaining about an unsafe certificate (signed by LetsEncrypt). Do you know if this problem has been solved yet?

kiliankoe commented 6 years ago

@michaelkallweitt Definitely works for me, my instance also uses a LetsEncrypt cert 😊

Neat setup, thanks for sharing! You can also use the F-Droid store on Android to install Syncthing. Then the directories will just synchronize in the background. When the paperless worker removes the photos, you have the added benefit of syncing back and so scans are removed from your phone after being processed.

@CGenie Thanks for the input! Sounds like the setup I have on my mac, just on Android. Nice!

Hi Kilian, love your work... I have the same setup as you however, I'm having difficulty getting the consume folder set up in nextcloud. I added another Container Path to the nextcloud template but I think I've done that incorrectly. Any chance on you expanding exactly how you implemented the nextcloud sharing option? Cheers,

Kevin

Hi Kilian... disregard my comment above. I followed your instructions implicitly and it works perfectly... thank you. As an aside, the nextcloud app on ios now has a scan document function, which works a treat and doesn't require a 3rd party app for the workflow.

Hey @kevzaddress, thanks for the update and kind words! And great to know that the Nextcloud app now comes with scanning built-in, I don't use the app very much, so I totally hadn't seen that!
