Can you install any other cargo subcommands, e.g. https://github.com/sfackler/cargo-tree?
I see you're using x86_64-pc-windows-gnu
rust toolchain, have you tried using windows native toolchain?
The reason I ask is this problem doesn't seem to be specific to cargo-edit.
cargo-tree installs without issues;
I'm swapping to the native toolchain, it will take me a bit to setup the Visual Studio Build tool, then I'll try with that.
I swapped to x86_64-pc-windows-msvc
and the installation of cargo-edit completes successfully. I was hoping not to have to use the native toolchain (in order to avoid having to keep the visual studio build tools installed as well) but I can live with this.
ward, Same issue. I'm using Window 10 and IntelliJ with plugin for Rust. Its failure is my fault or not support for window?
Does not work on Windows 11 with gnu toolchain.
warning: libz-sys@1.1.18: Compiler family detection failed due to error: ToolNotFound: Failed to find tool. Is `gcc.exe` installed? (see https://docs.rs/cc/latest/cc/#compile-time-requirements for help)
error: failed to run custom build command for `libz-sys v1.1.18`
Also, the switch to Visual Studio Built Tools is a no go: VSBT is proprietary and requires Visual Studio license.
