[Android Observer Group] Project 0: Todo - As far as I got ... #1

I managed to get through the following features: add, delete, and persistence. I also got a very basic second activity working, but that is not yet checked in (it is just Hello World). I did try to get a more complicated second activity working, but it was just crashing and I did not have time to figure it out.

This was all on my old laptop with only 4 GB of memory and the CPU's maxed out much of the time. I could not have all of Chrome, Android Studio, and the Geny emulator running at the same time so was constantly having to switch modes and wait for things to shut down and start up. Not fun. Am finalizing new laptop purchase.

Sorry, no visual walk through, either. No idea if I could get that software to run in addition to everything else with the limited resources.

Ok, glad you actually got to do some coding before getting your laptop. When is it due to arrive? Don't worry about the licecap gif, it just makes it easier to see how far you've gotten.

Me too, although it was pretty painful!  I just placed the order for the new laptop and it's supposed to ship in 1-3 days.  It ought to be a rocket compared to this pos!  Hopefully Windows 8.1 isn't too annoying. After a break, I will try to understand what's wrong with the update activity.  It must be something with passing the data between the two or some general start up issue for the second activity (with mods beyond hello world).  -Diana

If you want, I'll be at the Android meetup tomorrow night. The same one as before upstairs at Red Rock on Castro from 7-10pm. I can take a look to see if something's wrong with your intent.

FYI, I think I've now gotten through the basic app, including a second activity to allow editing items. I backed off on whatever I had before and moved forward in baby steps until I got stuff working. I did not do any of the bonus improvements or the licecap walk-through. The new laptop may show up tomorrow or maybe Friday. Tracking shows that it is in state, though. I think I'm getting a pretty good feeling for the new tools, although I need to play with git more. It still makes me nervous. I've been using Source Tree, but I want to understand more of the features and also git command line, too.

Oh, I wasn't sure exactly what could be excluded from checkin, so I just did a make clean and checked in what was left (better safe than sorry).

Ok, Once you get your laptop, try to walkthrough the licecap. I'm shooting for starting during the 2nd week of Feb.; maybe doing a meetup for next week so we can get to know people and maybe go over a couple of things.

I've added demo.gif at the top level. However, it does not show the entire emulator, even though I had it all in the view, and the location it shows the pointer is not accurate either. There's something wonky about it I need to figure out (perhaps that is in some of the notes I recall were sent out, but I have not yet tracked down).
