High latency for preview text while in article view makes it seem as if the preview pane is not loading #150

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.  From an article view, hover over a url within the article.
2.  The spinner spins, but will disappear, and there are several second in 
which nothing loads and looks like it's a dead pane.
3. Hover over other links.  This is intermittent. 

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
