There is noticeable jitter in the vertical registration. This is common among other DIY machines, including those using the Keyence fiber unit Kinograph has.

Avenues of inquiry include:

• mechanical conditions: stablize frame, check for motor vibration, ambient light interference, etc
• electrical: fiber unit settings, external circuitry, PLL chip, etc...
• code: use counter/averages

To try: stepper control on a separate MCU to ensure rock steady constant speed, then use a PLL (software or hardware) on determine trigger. Interrupt on the non-motor MCU.
