  1. Draw it
  2. Paint it
  3. Create a fake horizon
  4. Record and check positions

Yesterday was a good day in Auckland, so got some measurements. But before, got the correct numbers with Google Maps and with F-Droid SatStat:

12:15PM
Google Maps
===========
Lat  -36.8479814
Lon 174.7666313

SatStat
======
Lat -36.84810 (and also 1 minute later after recalibrating -36.84709)
Lon 174.76725 (ditto above 174.76687)
Altitude: around 102 m (GPS can be very imprecise for that)
Azimuth 273 W
Bearing 169 S

Then with the sextant and artificial horizon:

12:25 PM
67.4
33.7 (/2)

And Wikipedia:

Lat:  36.8482°S
Lon: 174.7668°E

That divided by two, would be 33.7. Combined with the correct longitude, plotted on Google Maps:
