Unreliable battery level report with IoT devices

Some common behaviors I've seen with the battery level report from IoT devices on HASS:

• Battery level remains the same amount for very long period (e.g. a few months)
• Battery level drops significantly (e.g. 80% to 20%)

aerQ temperature&humidity sensor shows astonishingly absurd history:

• Dropped from 80+% to 20% remaining.
• Remains at 20% for 4+ months.

• There are fluctuations over short period, but this might be making sense.

sengled E1D-G73 contact sensor, another device of the same model, started on the same day. Looks incredibly similar incl. remaining at 11%, so these devices' report might be "honest".
