HOW MUCH IS THE CHROMEBOOK VERSION OF MINECRAFT?
There are a few ways to purchase the Chromebook version of Minecraft, as well as its Android counterpart:
- Chromebook + Android bundle: $19.99 USD This version includes both the Chromebook and Android version of Minecraft.
Confirmed. I'm seeing this on Google Store.
Q. WILL MY EXISTING WORLDS TRANSFER TO MINECRAFT FOR CHROMEBOOK?
A. Nope. You will have to create a new world when playing Minecraft for Chromebook.
Q. WILL A PREVIOUS PURCHASE OF MINECRAFT TRANSFER OVER TO CHROMEBOOK?
A. It will not. To play Minecraft for Chromebook, you must purchase this version through the Google Play store.
Q. DO I NEED A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT TO ACCESS MINECRAFT FOR CHROMEBOOK?
A. You do not need a Microsoft Account to play Minecraft for Chromebook offline. However, you will need a Microsoft Account to connect to Realms services or to play on any servers.
Hmmm...Unclear but made me a bit desperate...My own Qs then.
WHAT ARE REALMS?
Realms are personal multiplayer servers, run by Minecraft, just for you and your friends. Your Minecraft: Bedrock Edition world is online and always accessible, even when you log off. Only people you invite can join your world, and what you do there is up to you: create, survive, or compete!
A. Hopefully there is. https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4409247032845-Minecraft-Realms-Plus-Creation-FAQ-
WHY ARE THERE TWO VERSIONS OF REALMS SERVERS?
We've developed two separate versions of Minecraft to optimize game performance on different platforms. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition (the version you find on mobile, Chromebook, console, and Windows 10 or above) runs on one kind of code, and Minecraft: Java Edition (for PC, Mac, and Linux) runs on another. These two versions are incompatible with each other and are developed separately with different features. Players on Minecraft: Java Edition can't play on console, mobile, or Windows Realms and vice versa.
Ok this one is convincing.
Q. CAN I PLAY ON A REALM WITH OTHER PLAYERS ON DIFFERENT DEVICES? Yes. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition allows players to get together, regardless of which device they're on. Anyone playing on, Android, Amazon Fire tablets, Gear VR, iPhone, iPad, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Windows 10 (and above) Windows Phone, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. or can play together.
Sounds like "REALMS PLUS" is an advanced version with more perks, and is monthly subscription, whereas "Realms" w/o "Plus" may be one-time purchase.
Q. HOW MUCH DOES A REALMS PLUS SUBSCRIPTION COST? $7.99 USD per month in the US. Realms Plus may have slightly different pricing plans for different platforms and countries.
Ok I'm good enough about Minecraft side of things. It's unfortunate that it's uner Microsoft's realm but looks like we can't do anything about it.
Sign into Minecraft Education with Google account credentials (educommunity.minecraft.net)
This guide will walk you through the options for single sign-on as well as how to link, or federate, your Google and Microsoft accounts together using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) so that the same credentials can be used for both Google and Microsoft products.
Note that due to the highly complex and custom nature of account configurations, the Minecraft Education team will be unable to provide help desk support for setup or troubleshooting of SAML federation.
Sounds complexed but sure, will briefly try and decide.
Among 3 options in the pages,
- Option 1: Use Minecraft Education Remember Me Feature
- Option 2: Enabling SAML Federation to use a Microsoft 365 Azure Active Directory Account to Sign into a Chromebook
- Option 3: Enabling SAML Federation to use a managed Google Account to Sign into Minecraft Education
I'll go with Opt-3 this time.
Now stuck at purchasing a Minecraft app on my child's Google account.
On the Google account that is designated as a manager of our family group for FamilyLink
, I see:
- Select a credit card as the family payment method. Family Library requires a shared payment method. Family members can use this payment method to make purchases on Google Play and for in-app purchases.
- Invite family members aged 13 and up, in the same country as you. By continuing, you agree to the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
While this msg concerns me as the family member I want to install a paid app for is under 13-year old, I went ahead moved forward, then I'm told:
Country not supported Confirm the country associated with your account
This happens with another adult account in the same family group on FL.
A credit card is already registered as a payment method on Google Pay for adult accounts I used.
Only thing I can think of is that we're in Canada now while the country of all our Google accounts are the US.
Asked android.stackexchange.com#255521 with less hope to receive solutions, it's more for publicly decrying.
Skpping Google Play issue, I'm moving forward to create Minecraft account.
I'll go with Opt-3 this time.
- opt-3: Sounds complicated but having an experience in enabling SSO will be helpful.
I've started process, then I quickly noticed the step requires something that is not individual user accounts don't need but what Microsoft's organizational account does. Then noticed in Sign into Minecraft Education with Google account credentials (minecraft.net):
If you are currently using managed Google Account credentials to sign into Chromebooks,
I guess Opt-2 and 3 are not available for us as we're using kids' individual account.
Moving on,
on minecraft.com trying to log on with the MS account made in https://github.com/kinu-garage/30y-130s_life/issues/1879#issuecomment-1869126198,
OOPS! We're sorry, but you must meet certain age requirements to sign in or create an account on this site.
Then I got Qs again:
Minecraft Education
different?Minecraft Education
if any?Looks like I should stick to non-education version. And I'm stuck with the issue https://github.com/kinu-garage/hut_10sqft/issues/965#issuecomment-1869814545.
Asked android.stackexchange.com#255521 with less hope to receive solutions, it's more for publicly decrying.
As I updated the link, I'm seeing the same issue still back in my home country.

As I've posted an answer, I'm now able to sign up "Family Library" and have purchased an app added to the Family Library, requested from my child's account. Answer copied for the record:
Not exactly sure what was a fix, but today after the following things are done, signing up "
Family Library
" finally went through. Not I'm back to my home country for 4 days by today.
- Made sure VPN was off. Btw today I used Ubuntu Linux while I used ChromeOS for my OP. Hope this OS difference is irrelevant.
- On another Google account of mine, I found a "
Family Group
" was set up with someone (my siblings) who might be based on yet another country (say country C). I removed them from this "Family Group
", which I don't recall we've ever used.- On the Google account in question, on Chrome web browser I went to "Family Sharing" setup page (myaccount.google.com) -> In "Other products and subscriptions you can share" choose "
Google Play Family Library
". Then follow signing up process -> Success. So, sorry as I don't have definitive solution but hope this helps others who run into the same issue.
- [ ] Q. Using
Bedrock
edition, can we use the same Microsoft-Minecraft account on Playstation so that the same world can be accessed from PS and other computers?
Looks like possible. PS5 minecraft is already Bedrock ed.
https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4409145073165-PlayStation-Technical-Support-FAQ
Sign in to PS4™ or PS5™ with your Microsoft Account
- On the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition home screen, click Sign in with a Microsoft account.
Son has played Minecraft on c13 a few times but he's seen the game showing strange behaviors (sudden crash etc.) I'm not sure whether that's Minecraft's issue or the host OS lacking power.
Either way setup is complete I guess.
