[C4GT] Help Map India Lab test names to the LOINC standard #1

Open kiranma72 opened 1 year ago

Project Details

LOINC is the international standard for coding diagnostic test results. The LOINC database contain over 40,000 codes and test panels and is widely adopted across the world

With the advent of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), India has started its journey to move towards interoperable health records. One of the key steps in that journey is to enable labs in India to include the LOINC code as part of their test results.

Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS) are software used by labs to manage their test results. LOINC coding needs to be incorporated into LIMS with all the tests being offered by a lab being tagged with the correct LOINC code. The challenge here includes the fact the the names and abbrevations for tests used in India varies with what is in LOINC. Also India mostly uses about 2500+ tests and finding the right from from the 40000+ LOINC database requires expertize and is time consuming.

The objective of this project is to create a tool that can be used by LIMS providers to rapidly identify the right LOINC code for the various tests in their lab. The tool also needs to use user feedback and incoming lab data to improve the India LOINC alias list.

Features to be Implemented

The output of this project is a web based tool that will be hosted at loincindia.in

It needs provide the following features

LOINC codes varies based on several factors including the method of testing, specimen type, units used for results, etc. An example below

LOINC CODE Long Common Name
LOINC 76629-5 Fasting glucose [Moles/volume] in Blood
LOINC Code 74774-1 Glucose [Mass/volume] in Serum, Plasma or Blood.
LOINC Code 2341-6 Glucose [Mass/volume] in Blood by Test strip manual.

Accuracy is a key requirement in mapping of tests to codes. The tool should be designed to ensure that it has matched mutliple parameters from the LIMS to ensure correct mapping.

The curated dataset of LOINC codes and the full LOINC dataset will be available for this project.

Hey @kiranma72

I am interested in this project and I am excited about the opportunity to submit a project proposal.

kiranma72 commented 1 year ago

Great! Please do send in the proposal. Do follow the C4GT process for the same

chiteshbansal commented 1 year ago

@kiranma72 is it mandatory to use Java and JSP for server side , can't we use MERN or MEAN to build a full stack web tool ?

ScripterAnmol commented 1 year ago

Hi @kiranma72 I'm interested in this project. Do we have any tech stack specification to develop this solution? If yes please share details to prepare a good proposal on what value I can contribute to project

vatsalya1102 commented 1 year ago

Hey @kiranma72 , I am a MERN developer looking forward to contribute to this project. It really sparks interest in me to analyze data regarding diagnostics tests. Please guide about the steps I should take to be able to contribute.

Deepanshu039 commented 1 year ago

Hi, @kiranma72 I would like to work on this project and soon try to submit a proposal with my idea of a website.

JaySingh23 commented 1 year ago

Hey @kiranma72 can you please share your email id? I would like to ask things about this project in detail.

AieshaShetty commented 1 year ago

Hey @kiranma72 , I am interested in this project and I am excited about the opportunity to submit a project proposal.

Vansh-Kamboj commented 1 year ago

Hey @kiranma72 , I am interested in this project and I have made multiple projects using springboot and soon try to submit a proposal

@Vansh-Kamboj @AieshaShetty @JaySingh23 @Deepanshu039 @chiteshbansal @ScripterAnmol

Apologies for the slow response to your comments. Happy to see your interest in this project. Request you to please prepare and submit a proposal as per the C4GT format. Note that any full stack can be proposed for this project but my experience is largely with Java, Javascript, MySQL, Linux, Apache with basic familiarity for other stacks.

Respected Sir

I am writing to you today to ask if you would be willing to review my project proposal for LONIC lab test project.I would really appreciate your feedback on my proposal.I have attached my proposal to this email. I have tried to be make it more better , but I know that there are probably some things that I have missed. I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at my proposal and give me some feedback on the following:

Any feedback that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Vansh

@kiranma72 Dear Sir,

My name is Ritaja Maitra, studying B.Tech[Computer Science Engineering] penultimate year at Institute of Engineering and Management,Kolkata. I am writing this regarding an internship opportunity in your esteemed project as a part of my education.

I wanted to be sure to reach out as I am highly interested in this opportunity, and I believe that my relevant skills would be a good fit for this position.

To that end, I am convinced that I will be able to push boundaries by thinking out of the box and explore the endless opportunities this industry presents. Kindly give me an opportunity to send my proposal draft for review before final submission. Looking forward to your response

Warmest regards Ritaja Maitra

@kiranma72 Dear sir, Thank you for the good opportunity. I am interested in this opportunity and looking forward. The purpose of this tool is to provide a range of features that will greatly benefit healthcare professionals and laboratories in India.

Our envisioned tool will have the following key features:

Comprehensive Search Functionality: The tool will allow users to search for tests in the curated LOINC dataset using Indian lab test names, abbreviations, or other relevant search terms. This feature will provide quick and accurate results, helping users find the desired information efficiently.

LMIS API Integration: We will develop an API that can be integrated with Laboratory Management Information Systems (LMIS) to provide LOINC India master data. This API will enable LMIS systems to retrieve the necessary LOINC codes when creating new tests, ensuring consistency and accuracy in their operations.

Bulk Mapping of Lab Tests: The tool will facilitate bulk mapping of lab tests to LOINC codes. Users can upload files or enter a list of lab tests, and an interactive process will guide them through the mapping. We will prioritize accuracy by validating multiple parameters from the LIMS to ensure correct mapping.

Addition of New Test Alias: Users will have the ability to add new test aliases to the curated LOINC database after performing the bulk mapping. This feature will allow users to expand the database and contribute to its growth and relevance over time.

Yours sincerely
