Wasnt this project once called xq?

kislyuk commented 2 years ago

No, this project was always called yq, and it was started before the other one. All you need to do is look at the git history.

I find these types of questions incredibly rude, but I'm going to assume that you asked it in good faith and just didn't word it well.

Ah apologies, I got redirected from https://github.com/kislyuk/xq which usually indicates a rename has taken place.

Definitely did not intend to be rude - I simply lazily compared github stars/forks to guess which version was likely the originator.

5.1k stars 40 watching 319 forks

vs

1.7k stars 25 watching 56 forks

So with that and the redirect I came up with the idea you had renamed it somewhat recently and thought I would helpfully inform you of the conflict created.

I know being an OSS is not always great, so apologies again if I ruined your morning.

Thanks. Yes, I established that redirect for the avoidance of confusion since this project also ships a utility called xq.

The other project does indeed have more stars, but has a substantially different philosophy. The author did not bother to search for anyone else using the name, and was not amenable to changing it early on when notified about the collision.

I appreciate the explanation and the intent of trying to help.
