If you are using WSL v1, you will most probably face another issue: https://github.com/kivy/python-for-android/issues/3000
To check WSL version, under Windows:
wsl -l -v
Version 1 will mean that your Linux is running using WSL v1.
If yes, make sure you are have installed OpenJDK 11 instead of 17 for Buildozer on Linux, make sure that Java 11 is default one. To check:
java --version
Also make sure you are using latest Buildozer (currently 1.5.0). To check:
buildozer --version
If building on WSL, always build the project in a directory on the Linux partition (somewhere under WSL cd ~). You will have to copy your project from the Windows partition to the Linux partition. Never build the project in a directory on the Windows partition (usually
/mnt/c/
or/mnt/d/
). This may give unpredictable results, and builds that are five to ten times slower than on the Linux partition.
Buildozer's behavior can be unpredictable in any of these cases:
It is run as root on an OS with user accounts (so Colab is OK).
It is run on an NTFS partition mounted on a Linux system, because some Python packages implement OS specific behavior based on the disk root name. WSL users: don't build your app on the Windows partition (
/mnt/c/Users/....
).

It isn't slower while you are using WSL v1. It's slower using WSL v2 only, but even using WSL v2 building from project located on Windows partition works properly.

This is for experts only, so if you don't know what you are doing, please upgrade to WSL 2 if not already.
I don't really know why it is tagged it as experts only. It's super easy to apply, and it have to be done once, piece of cake. To be honest if anybody is able to install and use Kivy with Buildozer, he is already an expert.
WSL v1 and v2 pros and cons are listed here I personally still using WSL v1. For me personally there are more pros.

Patched, on many laptops/desktops running WIndows 10 and 11 using Ubuntu with WSL v1. But I also checked if WSL v2 does not have this issue, and it's true. But In my opinion there are more pros using WSL v1 compared to WSL v2, that's why I'm still using WSL v1 fo Kivy and Buildozer. I allows me to run Android emulator like Nox (https://www.bignox.com/), build fast and easy from mounted Windows partition and easily install and debug app installed on Android using Nox or real phone or tablet via ADB.
To use WSL v2 you have to install additional Windows feature "Virtual Machine Platform" which you have to uninstall if you want to use Nox. I didn't check Bluestacks, but I read long time ago that it is also not compatible with Hyper-V. When you start Nox it fails and propose to disable "Virtual Machine Platform" feature. If you disable it, then WSL v2 will start complain about missing "Virtual Machine Platform". It's a subset of Hyper-V. That's why I still love WSL v1 to build and test using latest Buildozer (v1.5.0) and Kivy (v2.3.0). But apart of patching clang-14, you have to install JDK 11 instead of JDK 17, which is suggested by Buildozer documentation (https://buildozer.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html), then you have to downgrade Gradle to 7.x, as long Gradle 8.x requires Java 17+.
