Video Background Playback No Longer Working In Latest Github Release #894

I installed the latest version of kiwi src next from the github repository on my lg velvet 5g android phone yesterday & quickly discovered that I'm no longer able to play video streams in the background with the screen turned off. So I decided at least for now to uninstall the github version & reinstall the play store version that does allow for the playback of videos in the background, I was disappointed when I discovered that feature is no longer working in the latest github src next version. Has anyone else encountered this same issue, & if so were you able to fix the issue ?

Normally the settings are the same except that autoplay when closing the browser is off, so to play audio in the background all you would need to do is to press Play in the notification, I'll check to change that back

WOW, I'm so impressed to receive a reply about my concern, being honest I would much rather be using the latest github version of kiwi src next browser due to the fact that the android version is more recent than the play store version. Thanks so much for all of your efforts in making kiwi such a great android browser. 😁

Thank you for the kind words!

I have changed the default behaviour, normally it should matches the previous version and resolve your issue (so you can benefit from the new version).

It's not working properly. At least on A13. A12 it seems fine but my A13 you can't start it from the notification it doesn't do anything. It will stay as if unpaused and stay that way unless you go back to the window. The button doesn't fix it only going to the window does in A13

A13 worked 2 builds ago. Now it doesn't do background play. A12 does on both builds, A13 only on the build 2 builds behind this latest one.

I'm planning on installing the latest github src next release and see if by chance the video background playback feature is functioning properly again. Basically I'm really only concerned with one specific site: https://www.msnbc.com/live , On my android phone I still have an app I installed from the google play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details that allows me to continue play video feed in the background with the phone screen turned off.

For context I'm comparing the latest build from ffupdater which I assume is from here to the build from before yesterday's update. Before the updates, a13 had background play. Now a13 doesn't but a12 still does.

Did the minimum sdk version get bumped perhaps? Maybe there's a way to lower it because maybe a required flag causes this to happen? Maybe a development build and a particular compatibility option from developer options could fix it?

Just some ideas, I'm not an android developer but I'm gonna probably have to downgrade my a13 phone ir this can't get resolved.

If you have a12 or below I'm assuming your background play will work cause mine does.

https://github.com/kiwibrowser/src.next/commit/bba0869c4937a1b6ba61b6abfa0f837e64ea2d10 that one worked on a13. IDK if any of the recent ones (1st or 2nd MAYBE did, I don't know if I ever had them.

I deleted my comment cause it got confusing fast how a new build just came out. So I went back and tried it. Unfortunately, using all 3/3 newest builds I've tried them all, 0/3 do background play on a13.

Hello ascendbeing, I had been trying to figure out exactly what you were referring to when you mentioned the following (12 or a 13), as I'm an older adult male my brain isn't nearly as sharp as it once was but I'm thinking you might be talking about version's of android. As far as the latest github kiwi browser src next builds are concerned, the latest build doesn't entirely allow for the playing of videos in the background, while the latest google play store version still does. Thanks so much for your comments as I find them to be very informative.

Video background playback still isn't functioning like it used to, it seems like no matter which version that I try to use videos still aren't playing in the background like they uses to several versions ago.
