Currently, if we have maintenance, the service is just made unavailable for a few minutes or longer. This leads:

Monitoring alerts
No communication to the users

It would be better to have a proper system allowing to, on demand, put a service on maintenance to avoid the two bad consequences listed above.

Planned maintenance and intervention are two different things. The latter is hardly compatible with informing users.

I agree with the user-friendly placeholder although it might have unforeseen consequences but I disagrees with pausing the monitoring. I think it's important we keep those maintenance windows as downtime in the uptime robot history.

@rgaudin In a way or an other:

The user has to be properly informed that this is a situation under control, even in casse of intervention
We should have a clear way to make the difference between an interruption of service which is under control and one which is not.

We can now put maintenance windows at uptimerobot (and status.kiwix.org). We need now a way to have our reverse proxy working in collaboration with it.
