A perfect example is Medium: readability takes its content but not the header illustration, so in feeds and “readable” view you miss the beautiful image at the start.
It is possible to include it as a part of content and to replace/fix its positioning to make it beautiful. Or we could use a proper big image on site and hide an image for readability/feed purpose in the content (could it be hidden through the site's CSS so it won't load when there is s proper header, but would in other contexts?)
Also, this smaller image could be used for excerpts, as it would be smaller and better fitting for such thumbnaily contexts.
