How will we deal with "item stacking" and disproportionate front page attacks? #254

I anticipate that the rants on the first page will be bombarded with items used against them. How will we avoid the paradox of high power = death sentence? I think we're going to have to give the top rants some super kick ass defensive tools.

Alternatively we COULD just not allow sort by power. Just sayin'.

Consider as an item something that does not allow any attacks to have an effect. So people can still apply attacks, but they won't know if it has an effect. This would add an extra strategy level because most likely this kind of super powerful blocking defensive item would be saved for very powerful rants thus making people hesitant to attack powerful rants.

If we allow users to apply or donate boost items to rants they like, maybe we'll achieve some kind of balance? If a rant makes the front page, that means a lot of people like it. If a lot of people like it, and if we make it so that items are not super valuable, maybe it’d be safe to assume that they’d also be stacked with boost items. Maybe the stacking of good and bad items would balance? Maybe it'd even tip the scales in the opposite direction. If it's on the front page, then obviously more people like it than dislike it so maybe more people would boost it than attack it? But then again, in a competitive game, I think the natural tendency would be more to attack than to donate to others.
