So far this batch tastes better than the last batch. I'm heading off for the weekend tomorrow, so when I get home I'll make the call about bottling now vs. sunday.
Someone brought a jug of Verdant's lychee
kombucha to dinner the other day. It was really good. I need to track some down for this batch.
Bottled. Last night it tasted sugary, this morning it didn't.
10x, 5 ginger lemon
, 5 with lychee
juice (11.8oz can) I bought at an asian store on nicollet. 8 have 1tsp sugar
, 1 of each flavor has none. The lychee no-sugar has maybe 2x the juice.
Last night I took two bottles of ginger lemon and put one in the fridge. I opened both this morning and the room temp bottle popped much louder and fizzed better, but the one from the fridge tasted better? It seemed more effervescent too. I'll keep experimenting.
At first I didn't like how the lychee came out, but after it sat in the fridge for a week it tastes great. Maybe because I put more lychee into some bottles than others. Ginger lemon is a hit.
I need some new flavor ideas. Pomegranate? Mango? Blueberry? TODO
(I changed my numbering system to start at "#2" to match the github issue IDs. So now my first modern attempt is #2. This is the fourth batch, but it says #5.)
I got a box (16 bags) of Choice Organic Teas / Oothu Single Estate / Organic Orange Pekoe / Black Tea on sale. I figured I should use
8 bags
so I can get 2 batches from the box. All 16 are32g
so I'm using a bit less by weight than #2 and a lot less than #3, #4.4 cups
sugar. Water from an electric kettle, 212º. Sat in an ice bath until cool to the touch, then into the jar. I'm not sure what to call the thing. 'Beverage dispenser' won't do it, but it's not a jar or a jug or a crock. TODO, find a name.
