They probably haven't even tried it, 86Box works fine for literally anybody on Apple Silicon who tries it. It's even faster than x86 in some circumstances.

If a Ryzen 5800X @ 5050 Mhz can't simulate anything faster than a 90 Mhz Pentium in 86box then something is wrong somewhere. For now I'm not even using 86box for emulation. It works but it's WAY too damn slow to actually be useful for anything other than trying to simulate a 486. I've just stashed my 86box Win98 install on my file server and I'll wait to revisit it with whatever new CPU I end up upgrading to in about 3-5 years from now. I'm waiting until we have something that is at least +100% faster than my 5800X in single-thread performance. Hopefully something that fast will be able to make 86box useful. If by then 86box is still slow.. then it's just 💩 Accuracy *BS*.
