Perian: I don't know how complicated it would be, but is there a way for FtP to check to see if a text has already been imported?
3:53 PM me: think think think
yeeees.
Perian: I like that thought process there, Ben ;)
me: it's easy to check for texts that have been imported from teh same source
3:54 PM what's harder is determining whether the resulting texts actually shouldn't be superceded
e.g. if an import was abortive and the work was never added to a collection
maybe I should check, and if I find an pre-existing work from the same source, prompt the user and ask them whether they want to continue anyway?
3:55 PM hey, some of us have been reading a.a. milne lately
Perian: ahahahaha
I was just thinking a bit of pooh was in that
3:56 PM yeah. If it's not a hard fix, that might be the easiest solution
cause here's what happens now
3:57 PM With Klauber, there are, what?, 25 journals or so?
3:58 PM And so when I go to import the next volume, I have to open up another browser tab, look to see where I left off, then go back to the import.
me: yep
ah
good point
Perian: This isn't that difficult with Klauber, because those are arranged by date
me: sure -- lemme add a confirmation screen before the import happens
3:59 PM and then point both the new paste-the-url page and the old oai-record-import page to that confirmation page before the import actually happens.
Perian: but if there are journals or manuscripts that are titled in a more textual way, it would be harder
me: good point
4:00 PM Perian: and easy for me since I know what's happening, but I don't have that level of trust in some of my users ;)
me: ha!
okay. so that's a to-do
