Misspelling Highlighting Issues #262

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Phones: Atrix 2 & Atrix 4G, both running Gingerbread.

Hacker Keyboard version 1.33.1332 (2012-07-03)

Misspellings are *not* highlighted (underlined in Red).

Have turned "Touch to correct words" ON & OFF. No highlight.

Have turned "Quick fixes" ON & OFF. No highlight. Don't know what other
settings I should try.

Any ideas?

Is this different with other keyboards? I thought the red underlines were part
of the text editing widget, I don't think the keyboard is involved unless you
tap a word for recorrection.

Well, I hadn't really thought about that. Let's see...

I entered the misspellings in the default email client that came with phone,
this time with each keyboard I have installed.

I have the following Keyboards:

Multi-touch Keyboard (came with phone) - It *did* highlight the misspelling
(This is the keyboard I was using before I tried Hacker's. I checked the
settings, and it has a "highlight words" setting that I had forgotten about...
I feel so silly...)

GO Keyboard - It did *not* highlight the misspelling. (Has no setting to.)

Swiftkey 3 Trial Keyboard - It has an undefeatable Auto-correct. When I entered
enough gibberish to prevent it from auto-correcting, it did *not* highlight the
gibberish... (Has no setting to.)

Swype Keyboard - It did *not* highlight the misspelling. (Has no setting to.)

Hacker's Keyboard - It did *not* highlight the misspelling. (Has no setting to.)

So, I guess I goofed in posting this - but - how do I go about requesting this
"highlighting" as a "feature" to add to Hacker's Keyboard (which I really
like)..?

Thanks for your response.

It's a fair question - the interaction between the input method and the OS is
fairly complex, and I don't claim to fully understand it myself.

If the only keyboard capable of highlighting is the built-in one, I suspect
that it may be using nonstandard OS extensions to do so. I do get that in on my
Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.x, but I wasn't aware of it being available in
Gingerbread.

Anyway, I'll keep this open as a feature request, but I don't know if I'll be
able to implement it.
