Trouble with retaining the latest version of sugarcube on desktop app... #642

So I can install Sugarcube 2.31 onto the desktop app (Twine 2.3.5) fairly easily, and I can use it, but as soon as I quit and restart Twine twice, my settings reset, default format switches back to Harlowe, and Twine gives the tutorial that only shows up when first using the app. From what I understand, this is just another manifestation of a bug/glitch with installing new formats from a local directory.

For the short term: can we get Sugarcube 2.31 added in as one of the default formats ASAP?

Long-Term: Can we simplify the format install process to a drag and drop folder? And maybe fix the underlying bugs that cause these kinds of problems?

Using a mac with Catalina installed.

Any updates on this?

Updates for the bundled story formats are dependent on the format author opening a PR on this repo. I was able to merge and do a release fairly quickly for latest SugarCube.

If you'd like to propose drag-and-drop install for story formats, please open a separate feature request for that. I see a couple hurdles with that--how do you drag and drop a URL? But I think it is possible.

I am hoping work on Twine 2.4, which is still very much in-progress, will address the underlying problems here. I will notify folks when the first usable alpha is available so that we can all kick the tires, but it is still a good way away--months, probably.
