Suggestions for Familiars #9

Boo mentioned you guys needed ideas for Familiars. Thought I'd toss a few your way.

Already mentioned in the Cthulhu PR, but I think he should apply weakness to enemies around you as he instills dread in them

A Familiar that will extinguish you if you're on fire and freeze lava to cobble/obsidian if you're standing in it

One to save you from death. If you're close to dead (maybe under 2 hearts) all mobs around you are frozen in place. They're unable to attack (disable ai?) or move for 2 minutes. Only affects mobs in the immediate area when the effect triggers. So if you move away, new mobs could still attack you and a spawner might continue to spawn new mobs to come at you.

One for finding ore. Similar mechanic to the attunement wand, but extendable to other blocks (datapackable?) so you can toss it a diamond ore to have it highlight nearby diamond ore.

These all sound fantastic! @vemerion tagging you here in case you are looking for inspirations ;)

If you also have ideas for reworked fitting effects for the existing ones (beyond Cthulhu) I'd be happy to hear them too. Currently they all have effects, but I feel like there are still some adjustments we could make to make them a bit more useful or give a better sense of why someone would want familiar XY at a certain point, beyond their cool looks :)

Hrm, yeah Deer could maybe be run speed and step assist instead of jump boost, since the drikwing already covers that.

Bat with night vision is nice. Adding the highlight effect to nearby mobs could be a good addition to that.

Parrot familiar, since it says it brings company, ought to cause random passive mobs to appear near your. Like you're just chilling and suddenly there's a cow or another parrot. Should be slow so it's not like... a passive mob farm. And obviously needs a cap so you don't get flooded by passives if you AFK for a while. Maybe once per 30 minutes, tops?

I'll keep thinking and post more as I come up with them :D

oooh, couple more!

Little dude with a hammer that voids any forge:stone you pick up and has a chance to mend any worn/held gear. great for extended mining trips. Edit by @klikli-dev: See klikli-dev/occultism#453

Similarly, one that voids any forge:seeds you pick up and gives you a bit of regen? Or some other benefit. Not sure on this one. Could also just convert seeds to bonemeal for you. Could additionally replant saplings that fall to the ground.

And a fishing type one that would either increase your fishing luck substantially, or allow you to fish up chests with Dungeon Loot. minecraft:chests/buried_treasure and minecraft:chests/simple_dungeon loot tables?

These last three are really cool ideas! They would just provide really great utility that is beyond a simple speed buff

almost forgot to put this here haha.

The satchel could also be a familiar that follows you around as a mobile storage akin to https://discworld.fandom.com/wiki/The_Luggage... It would still be able to be picked up and used as a curio as it does now... Personally I think it should hop around as it follows you rather than have legs xD

I kinda wish the little dudes would still follow you, even when in a ring. Would it be possible to still have them as entities following you around, but the ring acts as a safety? If they die for whatever reason they're immediately respawned from the ring?

How about a high level familiar for each of the seven deadly sins. Gluttony - That increases the speed of eating and has food fill more of the food bar. Sloth - Disables phantoms and sleep any where by using you familiar as a bed. Pride - X2 ( Or more) XP drops + gold swords do double damage Wraith - Extra critical damage and/or negative potion effects on hit. Envy - +2 looting on all kills + piglins are now always passive to you. Greed- +2 fortune + villager discounts. Lust (maybe change the name to desire to stay Family Friendly) all passive animals will mate while outside the ring, inside the ring all near by pets regen heath

a new familular; this familular would have to represent a hand of some kind (master hand would work but not sure if that would fit this mods style). the Purpose of this famular while not in a ring can be decided, but when in the ring, it can be used to give the wearer and EXTRA RING Slot along with it giving the wearer back the slot the ring is residing in (2 slots total). this would allow the user to have more options to what curos rings to wear. given the context of this being a powerful utility, It should be an expesive thing for the familular to be summoned and a normal soul ring may not cut it. A special ring could be made using the hand familiar as a ingredient

this idea comes from something that Ive seen in a addon called Extra Botania with the Ring of the Elven king that when worn, any trinket that is in a baubles (or curos at this point) box will be counted as an active item

Additional context

maybe some more options for other curos slots. like maybe a charm that makes refrence to a swine god (pig) and when its worn, it will act like a gold item being worn and might have a chance to passify the brutes and the other pig creatures (that is until provoked). a funny thing that can happen when wearing this is that you cannot eat pork or food items that are made with pork. doing so while this charm representing a holy symbol of the swine god (or maybe can be infused with it) will upset the deity and will cause any pig-like entities around them to suddenly go aggressive

Soul items that can go into other curos slots, but may be more expesive depending on what its being made into when forging the item in a ritual

some famular that when worn will provide the wearer wtih good forution (looting and fortune III) and could stack on to other items wtih looting and fortune on them, but will make the user take 2-3x more damage (incoming damage is increased). Upgrading this with a blacksmith will make it even better but will make the user take more damage than usual (maybe 6x depending on how you want it to go) You can make this acordingly, but I think that an item that will give you better fortune should come at cost of being more damage prone (multiplying the damage you take)
