This is about having raster tiles looking exactly the same as WebGL tiles.

Mapbox released this on Feb 8th: https://www.mapbox.com/blog/mapbox-studio-tiles-static/

It seems Tessera code can be integrated with: https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-native/tree/master/platform/node
