I don't think this is a bug. It's likely that the cube connected to a socket. The cube dimensions are 0.25 on each axis. So 1 would be well outside. When a pin connects, that model becomes part of the socket model, so when you select it after connection, the socket model registers the selection. It was in fact a bug, and is corrected now. Updated in QA.
I created a Cube with both a socket and a plug. I tried with a socket on the y normal +1 and plug at y normal -1. That didn't work so I tried y normal 1 and x normal 1. In all cases the model is no longer selectable. If I remove either the socket or the plug the model is selected.
