After 3 years, I fear the answer is "not anytime soon". xHE-AAC is mostly an umbrella, to implement it we have to support all the parts first.
HE-AAC is there.
Extended HE-AAC adds MPEG-D USAC Baseline profile.
xHE-AAC adds MPEG-D DRC Loudness Control Profile or Dynamic Range Control Profile.
Having spec on hands (230$ each piece, according to ISO site) it won't be a big problem (I estimate 1-3 full working months).
Overall, not impossible, but in the current situation would require some community willingness and combined effort to make it happen.
But, as Fabian @fabiangreffrath answered in another feature request "why not? 😉".
Using this decoder with Dream DRM and I prefer how this one handles errors, I think it would benefit from xHE-AAC support. It's 2023 so I don't think it will ever come here.
Are you going to implement it?
