Port of V5 timeshift changes from Matrix

Are there any comments? I'd like to get this into 18.6 nightly testing soon.

As discussed offline - I'm happy with these backported changes, giving Leia users the new v5 timeshift functionality. I was giving it a few days to see if there was any feedback from others in the community. If we don't get any further comments in the next few hours, I'll go ahead and merge the changes.

I believe you still have to create a tag for 3.3.17 to finalize this. I notice that this didn't happened for the 3.3.16 so it was never released.
