Haha, klondike is the main developer, so he has lots of ideas. :)
We're gonna split out bills and resolutions in one of the next versions of the app, which will increase relevance and get rid of some of the "naming"-level stuff. Not all of it, though - calculating relevance in an automatic way isn't easy.
State and local laws are a ways off - that kind of comprehensive database is a huge undertaking.
Most officials don't have an email address, instead they take input through their website's official contact form. I'm going to explain this in the app somehow, because this is a very very common request.
I'll be adding a Votes tab or option on the legislator profile, to see votes keyed to a legislator.
You can get to the bills sponsored by an official by tapping the sponsor item on the bill page, then tapping Sponsored Bills on that profile page.
There is a share option, but you have to hit the Menu button to see it, and not many people are doing that. I'm going to expose it more obviously to the user.
Similarly, there's a link to the full text of a bill on the menu, using THOMAS.
Campaign contributions aren't planned for this app, as it's a reference of activity of politicians as officials, not as candidates.
Lastly, I'm definitely interested in putting up a donation app, to make it easy for people to donate to us through the Android Market. We're looking into that.
Thanks for all the feedback! I'm going to close the issue, as any work I do on an individual item will show up in its own ticket.
Not sure who klondike is but he sure has some ideas LOL
here's my list:
Search (name, location, full text, related,) filter (state, local, federal, relevance, importance (do we really wanna see all the building 'naming' bills?) obviously add state and local laws. Email for every official! who voted for what and when link on bill to other bills sponsored by official Share option (BT, email, maybe a bump extension?) Link to PDF of full text Voting histories with links to bills Public contributions accepted and related legislation (based on text search of contributors)
There is so much to do with this app... it could be one of the most influential tools come November... it could change the direction of the entire country.
Of course you'd have to dummy proof it (hide most of it in advanced settings) and make a big red button that says CURRENTLY UNDER VOTE for things like health care and unemployment, medicare, social security etc... It would be THE goto place for all the armchair non-voters and get them off their asses to vote. I kid you not.
P.S. trust me on this one... put out a 'donations' button on your next update and you'll see what i'm talking about! Yes I know it's open source but this is the only place to leave a comment, pass it on.
